We love Autumn!

As the long days of summer draw to a close, it’s time to welcome in the new Autumn season and trade in your summer sandals for a pair of weatherproof boots. Here at Geoffrey Kent Safari we are gearing up for Autumn with a thoughtfully designed range of products to allow you to look and feel your best whilst rummaging around in the great outdoors. Here are the reasons why we love Autumn and our top pick of essential items, come rain or shine.

Long walks in the parks

It’s the perfect time to wrap up and enjoy the  Autumn blooms in all their amber glory. Our lightweight duffle is perfect for walks in the park, and can be layered up when the cold starts to settle in. Of course, the most important things to keep safe from the cold are your hands and head, try throwing on our ‘Salama’ beanie hat and ‘Wimbi’ touch screen gloves for some extra warmth and protection.

Halloween – Wednesday 31st October

Halloween originated from a Celtic tradition called the festival of Samhain, during which participants would dress up in costumes and light bonfires to ward off evil spirits. Let’s face it, we all love an excuse to dress up, even as adults.  But if like us you prefer to avoid a night of trick or treating, we suggest you close the curtains, turn off the lights, put on those cosy ‘Toa’ PJs and rent a classic horror movie…don’t forget your own supply of candy!

Blackberry Picking

Jump into those wellies and grab a basket because it’s blackberry picking season! You know those ‘bon Maman’ jars you have been hoarding (or is that just us?) well you can finally put them to use. Well the idea is there!

Comfort food & long Sundays by the fire

We talked about the blackberry picking earlier, well if you don’t fancy making jam (it’s a chore we know) we have the next best thing! Mmmmm we love a homemade dessert here in the office, this apple and blackberry crumble is mouth-wateringly good! Now all you need is to don your comfiest loungewear, a pair of cosy socks and get snug in front of a roaring fire with a good movie…is it too early to bring The Holiday?

Recipe – Blackberry & Apple Crumble

Here’s one of our top recipes for an easy and delicious blackberry and apple crumble and let us know if there are any of your own personal recipes we should be trying!

Serves 6

Prep 20 minutes
Cooking 25-30 minutes
325 calories per serving

1 large cooking apple and 4 eating apples, peeled and sliced
300g blackberries
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
25ml maple syrup (optional)

For the topping

150g wholemeal flour (wheat or spelt)
75g butter, diced
50g oats
25g hazelnuts, lightly crushed
25ml maple syrup

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4.
  2. Put the apples and blackberries in a 1-litre ovenproof dish. Sprinkle over the cinnamon and cloves and mix thoroughly, then drizzle over the maple syrup, if using.
  3. To make the topping, put the flour in a bowl with a pinch of salt. Add the butter and rub it in with your fingertips until the mixture is the texture of breadcrumbs. Stir in the oats and hazelnuts, then drizzle in the maple syrup. Mix again.
  4. Spoon the crumble topping over the fruit. Bake the crumble in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the topping is brown and the fruit is piping hot and bubbling up from underneath.

GKS top tip: This really does taste the best with a big spoonful of vanilla Cornish ice cream.

P.S. If you’d forgotten, it’s also the season for Christmas advertising – it’s like marmite, you either love it or hate it…

Oh, the weather outside is frightful… But the fire is so delightful…
