Geoffrey Kent grew up with his parents Valerie and Colonel John Kent and sister Anne in the Aberdare Highlands of colonial Kenya.

At 15, In honor of successfully completing the customary African rite of passage from boy to man by engaging in an elephant hunting safari, Geoffrey was presented with an elephant hair bracelet.

1960s

Influenced by his Kenyan upbringing, mixed with his time at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and passion for travel and animals, Kent together with his parents, repositioned the safari experience to “shoot with a camera, not with a gun.”

In 1962  the first Abercrombie & Kent luxury mobile tented safari was introduced, making it possible for the first time to have ‘champagne on ice’ in the bush.
